Many misconceptions exist about annulments. At St. Charles, we are here to help you to both understand what an annulment is and to assist you in seeking an annulment.

First, it’s important to understand the difference between a divorce and an annulment:

• Divorce says that you were once married, but now you aren’t.  Divorce is a matter of civil law.

• Annulment says you were never truly married in the first place.  Something necessary for a valid Catholic marriage was missing.  Annulment is a matter of Church (Canon) law.
